ABOUT
Cultivating community, one plant, plate, and person at a time.
Plantable’s Origin Story
From the rolling hills of Scotland, where Kirkwood and Donna Hale lived for eight years and first envisioned Plantable, to the sun-baked streets of Redding, the Hales’ dream is taking root. Plantable Nursery & Cafe is more than just a business; it’s a passion project, born from their love for gardens and community. Imagine a European-inspired haven where you can find Shasta-hardy plants, sip coffee, and indulge in freshly-baked beignets.
The vision extends beyond plants and coffee to providing brighter futures for people who may face obstacles to a solid career path, such as young adults transitioning out of the foster care system, individuals experiencing homelessness, and people with disabilities. Plantable is a training center focusing on horticulture and food service within a vibrant and creative space. With a lifetime of landscaping and education experience, and hearts full of inspiration, the Hales have brought a unique and transformative experience to Redding.
